A sketch map of the tree(s) location
This must clearly mark and uniquely identify (T1/T2 or G1/G2 etc matching TPO schedule reference if applicable) the tree and include surrounding details (roads/neighbouring property/landmarks) so that the tree(s) can be readily located on a plan and on site visits.
Tree type and condition
This should include the species, or a clear description of the physical attributes so that the tree is clearly identifiable.
Examples of description of works/operations
Tree felling
Stating this is adequate.
Coppicing
Stating this is adequate.
Canopy reductions/pollarding
You should provide either:
- Annotated photos demarking the points of reduction proposed or post works measurements
- Post work measurements are required so that the tree can be measured afterwards. Example: tree to be reduced from 10m to 8m height and from 6m to 4m in width
- "Back to previous points" this is also adequate as this can be verified through growth characteristics afterwards
Crown raising/crown lifting
Provide a measurement of post works height of the crown. The starting point should be provided from ground level, for example crown lift to 3m from ground level.
Crown thinning
An approximate % of foliage lost once the thinning is complete, for example 10% crown thin.
Selected limb removal
You should provide either:
- An annotated photograph marking the limb(s) to be removed
- A clear description/reference point (for example branch next to guttering/north facing limb at a height of 10m to be removed)
This is required in accordance with national guidance Tree Preservation Orders: A Guide to the Law and Good Practice, and as stated on the national Planning Portal Works to Trees - Consent types.
